Language holds a certain amount of power both physically and mentally, and we build language around us in ways that are both positive and negative. This work examines that construction directly, and invites you to engage consciously in the way you construct your own identity in relation to gender and sexuality by engaging physically with the objects presented. In many ways, I am personally processing the complicated nature of language and identity through my work, and doing my best to point out these interesting and challenging ideas as I understand them.
Participants are invited to share their experience via the hashtag: #constructedhymhouse
This work is a part of my ongoing series, Out of Context, and was presented as a part of hymHouse in Atlanta in September 2014.
